X/Y Milling Machine (Non-Laser Controlled) Profile

1.0 Technical Information
The X-Y Milling Machine mill relies on the structural strength of the cross beams and the accurate set-up of the longitudinal beams to maintain a flat plane. It is very similar to the LSLM in its structural set-up, however instead of controlling the milling head via a laser plan, a precision scanning laser is used to accurately set the longitudinal reference beams via jacking bolts. This makes the X-Y an alternative to the more technical and complex LSLM on smaller dimensions and items which less critical flatness tolerances are required.

The X-Y Milling Machine consists of two longitudinal structural beams, which are placed parallel on each side of the surface to be machined.

A scanning laser source is then secured on a pedestal at one end of the job and used to:
7. Survey the original ‘as found’ condition of the surface.
8. Select and confirm the ‘plane of best fit’.
9. Establish reference datum points to enable the selected plane to be reproduced if the laser source is disturbed.
10. Adjust the longitudinal structural beams to the plane of best fit.
11. Monitor progressive machining results during the project.
12. Confirm machining results upon completion.

A gantry constructed of a pair of beams is attach onto and travel upon each longitudinal beam via precision linear bearings mounted onto the structural beams. The gantry extends across the entire surface to be machined.

A saddle plate is mounted across the gantry beam linear rails supporting the milling head assembly. The milling head travels unobstructed across the gantry (in an X-axis direction) and the gantry along the longitudinal beams (in a Y-axis direction) thus being able to access any X-Y coordinate within the longitudinal beams.

The X-Y Milling Machine can perform a variety of milling applications including slots, grooves, and edges.

2.0 Advantages
The X-Y Milling Machine produces extremely accurate results on items up to 6 meters by 3 meters.

The X-Y Milling Machine is lightweight and extremely simple to assemble relative to the sizes being machined.

The use of the scanning laser to both set the reference longitudinal structural beams and monitor results ensures:
1. Quick and easy set-up.
2. Easy reference to other datum points adjacent to the job.
3. Constant monitoring of the job for flatness and relation to other datums.

3.0 Capacity and Shipping
The standard milling range of the X-Y Milling Machine in a single set-up is 6 meters by 3 meters.

The X-Y Milling Machine can be extended on either axis to accommodate specific applications.

Shipped in a 20ft sea freight container.
