The CSLM and LSLM have a proven worldwide record of producing extremely accurate results in one third the time of conventional machining equipment. Further development has incorporated the technology of laser controlled interfacing from the LSLM to the CSLM design for laser controlled machining on diameters up to 150ft (45M). |

The Circular Self Leveling Mill - CSLM
Technical Information The CSLM is specifically designed to machine horizontal or near horizontal circular faces from 2 to 9 metres diameter (6.5 to 30ft). The CSLM is relatively compact and fast to assemble on the work piece because it does not require large bearings and housings to support a rigid arm from the center of the work piece. Instead a milling head, rotating at the diameter to be machined is supported on wheels rolling on the surface being machined and connected by beams to a central pivot post. The machine cuts a flat plane because the wheels are controlled to maintain the milling cutter in a level plane by referencing off a central ground datum ring, which has been set to the desired plane. With the circular face cut flat, the machine can rotate on this face to machine any other part of the work piece using attachments such as machining vertical faces some meters below the horizontal face on which the machine rolls. The Laser Controlled eXtra Large Circular Self Leveling Machine - XL-CSLM
Technical Information The XL-CSLM is specifically designed to machine horizontal or near horizontal circular faces from 6 to 50 metres diameter (20 to 150ft). Like its smaller brother, the CSLM, the XL-CSLM is relatively compact and fast to assemble on the work piece because it does not require large bearings and housings to support a rigid arm from the center of the work piece or complex and precisely set rails to run on. Instead a milling head, rotating at the diameter to be machined is supported on wheels rolling on the surface being machined and connected by beams to a central pivot post. The machine cuts a flat plane because the wheels are controlled to maintain the milling cutter in a level plane by referencing off a central scanning laser, which has been set to the desired plane.Again, like the CSLM, many other concentric and parallel faces can be machined once the face on which the machine rolls has been machined. The Low Profile Circular Milling Machine - LP-CSLM
Technical Information The LP- CSLM is specifically designed to machine horizontal or near horizontal circular faces from 1.7 to 4.5 meters diameter (5 to16ft). It is compact version of the CSLM above designed to fit into a vertical space of only 325mm (13”) Like the CSLM the milling head, rotating at the diameter to be machined is supported on wheels rolling on the surface being machined and connected by beams to a central pivot post. With the circular face cut flat, the machine milling head can rotated and used to machine the under side of an upper face. Typically the two faces are slew ring bearing faces such as on a crane pedestal and revolving frame. The machine is extremely versatile and useful in tight access situations. Vertical Circular Self Leveling Mill – V-CSLM
Technical Information The V-CSLM is specifically designed for machining circular, vertical surfaces from 1.7 to 5meters diameter (5 to 16ft). Whilst the operating principle is the same as the CSLM, it is necessary to have a suitable face, such as the back side of the face being machined to pull the machine mill milling box and wheels hard against the face being machined by means of cam rollers using springs or hydraulic rams for tension. Laser Controlled - Linear Self Leveling Mill - LSLM
Technical Information The LSLM is specifically designed to machine large irregular areas such as Steam turbine horizontal half joints. The main benefit of this machine is that the milling head assembly is laser controlled using three laser targets and ball screws to ensure it is always machines parallel to the laser plane, regardless of the deflection of the supporting beams. This enables areas as large as 8 by 17 meters (26 x 55ft) to be machined in a single set up to close tolerances.Click for more information

X/Y Milling
Technical Information SLM have a large range of X/Y mills capable of machining large rectangular areas either horizontal or vertical. Machines vary in size from 1 x 1.5meters (3 – 5ft) to 8 x 17 meters. These machines depend on structural strength for accuracy (Unlike our laser controlled Linear Self Leveling Mill (LSLM) and hence as the size increases, accuracy will decrease.Click for more information

Symmetrical Mills
Technical Information The Symmetrical Mill was specifically designed to machine wear plate surfaces on Steel and Alumina Rolling Mill Stands. The mill consists of two X/Y mills, one located in the Operator side and one in the Drive side. The mills are set up parallel to the centre line of the mill stand and after machining the Exit side of the Mill stand, the cross bed in each X/Y mill is swung 180 degrees and the entry side machined without the need to reset the X/Y mill position relative to the center line of the Stand. The time saving is so significant it is possible to halve the time required for machining access to macjine all four faces on a four high hot strip mill stand.Click for more information

Boring Bars
Technical Information SLM has a range of 4" and 8" boring Bars. Our 8" Bars have CNC tool control enabling contour and large radius machining required in Steam turbine refurbishment to be carried out efficiently without the need for the operator to be near the rotating bar. All our bars are designed with the ability to control support bearing tolerances This reduces the tendency for the bars to cut an out of true bore when lying in the horizontal position. Our bars are set by the use of bore lasers. When machining a set of parallel bores such as a largegear box, SLM Installs bars in all sets of bores which can be checked for parallel and position before machining commences.
